The 2008 Secil Prize goes to Nuno Brandão Costa
The architect Nuno Brandão Costa was distinguished with the 2008 Secil Architecture Prize, by the Administrative Building and Show-Room Moveis Viriato (Paredes).
By electing this work between the 12 candidates, the jury, chaired by the architect Nuno Simões Duarte took into consideration "two aspects of contemporary professional practice: disciplinary, carried out by construction strictness and the design of the quoted work; public and social, approaching a commercial program not always handed to architects".
"Implanted into an less qualified industrial landscape, the award winning building reveals the ability of architecture to transform the environment, one of its founding principles", said the jury.
Awarded every two years, the Secil Prize for Architecture distinguish portuguese creators' works that incorporate cement, the material produced by the company.
